A Precious Goodbye

Walking With You was created by Kelly of Sufficient Grace Ministries to help support those who have lost a child. Together we share our stories, helpful information, scriptures, encouraging words, prayer requests, and more. To join in on Walking With You please visit Kelly's blog.

This 4th week, we are sharing about saying goodbye and experiencing the memorial service or funeral if applicable.

You know, I say goodbye to Leila every day. I don't regret cremating her and keeping her
remains with me, not for a second. But the knowledge that she's gone is always right there. The ash container I see first thing every morning, and stop to kiss on my way out of the bedroom into a new day.... (shown here with the blanket she left the hospital in)

Or the satin memory box under my bed that holds all the sweet mementos I have of her life and death,

from sympathy cards to the journal I kept while carrying her. From pregnancy tests:

to photo albums:

To ultrasound pictures and hospital bracelets.

  1. I think it is so sweet you kiss her every day. You have so many wonderful keepsakes to remember her by. So beautiful.

  2. Leila's things are beautiful. It's so sad that those are the only mementos we will ever have of our sweet babies.

  3. I have a simmilar collection. Stones, with Akul,s name written on them, a memory box, clothes he never wore, a baby journal I put together during my pregnancy, decorations from the baby shower..and his ashes.

  4. To this day I regret not keeping the pregnancy tests I took. And I absolutely love the "urn" you have for her. That is so precious! I still have the hospital bracelets, too.

I agree with Bree...it's sad the mementos are the only thing of our babies we will have. At least on this Earth. Someday, though, we'll have our babies.

Not a day goes by that I don't long for that day.

  6. I like the heart urn too, we got a heart for Katy's urn and I am glad, it is so much nicer to hold than a vase. Our urn only weighed 7.5 oz and Katy weighed 11.5 oz...thinking of adding something so that the urn weighs the same as her. I love the mom and baby on yours though, ours is just blue...but my boys picked it out. Thanks for the comments on my blog too.
